Popiah Vegetable Roll
Vegetable Roll or better known as “Popiah” by the locals is a type of “Hokkien”-styled fresh spring roll which can be commonly found in Malaysia and Singapore. The popiah skin is a thin pancake like made of wheat flour which is then covered by sweet chilli pepper sauce before it is filled. The filling is mainly finely grated jicama that has been cooked with a combination of other ingredients such as bean sprouts, French beans, lettuce leaves, grated carrots, dried prawns, Chinese sausage, seaweed and shedded omelette. Popiah can be choose either fresh wrapped or fried.
Mdm. Kuah’s popiah stall which is located in Jonker Street has been operating since Jonker Street was established. Mdm. Kuah first started as an intrested based hobby as she lived nearby Jonker during that time. Not knowing long after that, her business grew and that her customers regarded her popiah as the best popiah found in Jonker as there were nice, cheap and many ingredients were put inside it. Because of this, Mdm. Kuah was motivated to turn her intrested based stall to a profit making stall today. Today, Mdm, Kuah stalls is being filled with many tourists and locals coming forth to crave for her juicy filled popiah. Mdm.
